Finding balance and developing healthy boundaries in your life is a feat to be mastered. Many people have different opinions of what a balanced life and boundaries should look like according to their paradigm. However to find where you are healthy in body, soul, and spirit is truly a personal discovery and most likely a life long journey.
Being more of a Type A personality myself, I have had to learn some of these lessons of balance and boundaries the hard way. I have been guilty of over committing, over extending, and crossing the line of burn out more than once. Thankfully God partnered me with a man who can see it coming quicker than I can, and has over the years taught me to see the signs before I spontaneously combust.
I have many dreams, desires and goals, but in order to achieve them, I must also learn to do what it takes to thrive and stay alive within the boundaries and balance of the life God has given me. He wants me fully alive, thriving, and healthy in my body, soul and spirit to fulfill my purpose and destiny here on this earth.
What does that look like and mean for me? It means when I say “no” to one thing, I am automatically saying “yes” to the balance and boundaries I need to have to last. That means I have to learn to guard and invest my time well; I can’t just hand it out to whoever or whatever comes my way. It means I choose the most important people in my life to come first–my relationship with God, my husband, my children, family, and those the Holy Spirit directs me to in a particular season.
It means I choose to be disciplined to exercise and eat healthy for the sake of my natural body. I get a good nights sleep so I can operate at maximum capacity. It means I choose to feed my spirit man with the Word of God and meditate on His presence. It means I choose to surround myself with people who are of like-mind, values, beliefs, and going to encourage and challenge me–bringing life to my soul.
This is a process and I am still in the learning curve for balance and boundaries in my life. But as I am discovering this order of importance, everything else is beginning to align and fall into place. As a result, I see more peace in my home and life, I find more excitement and energy for the things I am most passionate, and the joy of being alive and well on the inside truly begins to manifest on the outside.
In Psalm 19:7-8 it states, “The instructions of the LORD are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The commandments of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are clear, giving insight for living.” I want to encourage you today–Ask Holy Spirit to give you insight for living, to help you find balance, and establish boundaries for your life; to be healthy in body, soul, and spirit. Balance and boundaries doesn’t mean you stop living, it means you are setting up the stage to come fully alive in all aspects of your life.
