“The main idea behind consistency is to develop strong habits that are unmovable regardless of your mood, who the customer is, or how busy you happen to be.” ~The Power of Consistency by Brian Williams, BWTV
Someone very important once told me that one of my strongest characteristics was that I was consistent. That was not what I really wanted to hear. I thought maybe they would say I was strong, powerful, beautiful, intelligent, etc., but instead of all of that, they said, “consistent.” I felt like that was kind of a boring way to describe someone.
But, shortly after this statement, I was at work and going through a Brian Williams online customer service training. Brian Willams made this statement, “The main idea behind consistency is to develop strong habits that are unmovable regardless of your mood, who the customer is, or how busy you happen to be.” I had to read this several times because it brought insight into the very word that someone said I was–consistent.
According to Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary, consistent means possessing firmness or coherence; marked by harmony, regularity, or steady continuity; free from variation or contradiction; marked by agreement; and showing steady conformity to character, profession, belief, or custom. I began to realize this word was of great value. To be told I was consistent was a very high compliment.
I have always desired to be a strong person who does not waiver from my beliefs, values, and goals regardless of how I am feeling. There are so many times in life where curve balls get thrown at you, and unexpected things happen. Based on emotions, mood, stress level, difficult situations and circumstances, it could easily make you want to quite and give up, do the opposite of everything you have worked for, and/or walk away from all relationships. However, in the midst of it all, and maybe some crying and screaming, you manage to be unmovable, hold fast, push through, and survive.
The power of consistency in my life comes from steadfast faith and firm belief in the One who is consistent–Father God! He does not waiver in His feelings towards me, His goodness, love, mercy, grace, favor, and more. As I have faced life’s challenges, I have held fast to the One who consistently has brought me through and made me a conqueror. He is the unmovable rock that I cling to in every situation. He is my strong habit that makes me powerfully consistent!
I want to encourage you today, if you find yourself wavering to and fro and cannot find something steadfast to hold to, call out to the One who is consistently there–Christ Jesus. He is unmovable in His love for you, steadfast in His faithfulness, and will consistently answer throughout all of life’s journey.
